Imperator – They've shown a demo movie about the game that was roughly 10 minutes long. We were not allowed to video tape or take pictures so I can’t help you here. What I can tell you is this: From not ever “hearing” about this game until I no kidding stepped into the booth at E3, I was kind of curious.

Essentially, what I got from the movie is that the “Roman” type empire from old was never truly gone, and the story line for Imperator is of one in the future, where the empire has made a comeback, and is the leading rule of government over the entire planet.

All is well in good until an alien invasion fleet shows up and starts to try and take over the planet. The cut scenes from the movie showed a very up to date graphics engine (not sure which one they are using for this project), which is right on par with all the big names out there right now. Of course with the amount of time between now and the game goes to Beta – and knowing first hand what Mythic’s track record is for constantly upgrading their games graphics in leaps and bounds (being an old Dark Ages player), I would expect the graphics to be leading edge even at launch.

They showed normal cityscape, some general movement, then wasted NO time to jumping into showing us the juicy combat. Now if the combat at beta/launch continues in what was shown, I will look forward to playing this game. The combat had the Warhammer 40k Space Marine type of look to it, with combat that seemed to be not only on Earth, but also in Space Ships – the Halo type of Inner Ship type of fighting. What also looked to be squad type combat built into it as well. Of course this is all speculation since it was a movie, but hey, I can still dream.

I do have to admit that when I saw the general movement, and the look of the cityscape, the first thing that came to mind is Star Wars: Galaxies. But, of course that isn’t a bad thing, and for a game that is this far out from launch, no one can really say what the game will look like come beta/launch. And being compared to a popular MMO that is already over a year past their launch, isn’t bad either.

In closing, this is one MMO junky that will be keeping his radar fixed in the direction of Mythic and the future of Imperator. I just hope at E3 2005, that they have actual in game demos for us to get a real feel for the game!
